The Big Proposal

When you know, you know! Yes, this is cliche but the truth is, that's how it worked for us. Justin was spouting his love for me shortly after we started dating. I sure am making him sound like a total love sap, but in the beginning that's how it went. He was all for it, and I was playing it safe. I guess playing hard to get really works.

Eventually, our roles swapped. I fell in love, hard. At that point, I knew he was the one. Sure, I'd dated other guys for 2 or 3 years and never felt this way; but like I said, when you know it's real, you just know. About that time, he got the typical "Oh crap, I'm in really deep... I really love this girl... Holy shit, I just said that... Oh, no I'm fucking scared" guy mode. Having been through that crap before, I laid it out there and told him straight up, if he wasn't into it, then that's cool; check ya later. But, if he was into it, then date me- all or nothing- I wasn't going to settle for any 'friends with benefits- call me at 2130 for a hook up' crap. I wanted the whole thing: dates, dinner, movies, etc. etc. Well, lucky for me, he decided he was all in.

We dated for about a year, when Justin started shopping around for rings. Eeeek!! He was pretty secretive, but I found out through various channels. He wasn't nearly sneaky enough; because I wasn't even looking for anything when I found a insured delivery mail receipt at our house. My little brother, who was my house mate for 3 years while we were both attending college, had signed for it and left the receipt right by the front door!

Let me tell ya ladies, it really sucks knowing there is a ring hidden in the house, just waiting for the big moment. Well, I like surprises and didn't go looking for it. However, every plan he had made to be romantic and spontaneous, I basically ruined. I kept anticipating the proposal... and by doing that I ruined several big surprises. He knew I wanted a surprise... so he proposed where I would least expect it!

Ever since I had moved to Manhattan, I'd been working at a local restaurant as a waitress. I still work there - love me some Willies Sports Bar & Grill. It's like a big family away from home and will always have a special place in my heart. I actually took him there to see what everyone thought of him on our second or third date; had some of the regulars pick on him just a little and my coworkers feel him out. Anyway, some old friends of my had come to town, and we were meeting them there for dinner. Out of the blue, Justin grabbed my hand, turned me around, got down on one knee, and popped the question! Holy shit was I ever surprised!!! If he was going to surprise me with a proposal, that's probably the only place he could have pulled it off! It was perfect, perfectly us and perfectly blue-jeans romantic. Best part about the whole thing, is that my friends got the whole moment captured forever in photos!

"Will you -"

"-Yes! Yes! Yes!"
And I totally interrupted him...I just couldn't help it!
